- Department Chief and Medical Director Dr. Kyle Vojdani on the unprecedented pressures our ED team is facing, how they are working to support our patients and the role our ED plays in the broader healthcare system.
- Dr. Jefferson Hayre will walk you through our ED, where you will learn how Michael Garron Hospital is supporting seniors and patients experiencing mental health and addiction crises.
- Dr. Nadia Primiani and Dr. Ruchi Mohindra will lead a simulation of a typical case in our Child & Youth Emergency Zone.
- Dr. David Rosenstein will discuss digital innovations, including artificial intelligence.

Dr. Kyle Vojdani hails from the east coast where he completed his medical training at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Residency and Fellowship training in Emergency Medicine at Dalhousie University.
Dr. Vojdani is the Chief and Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Michael Garron Hospital and is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. He has overseen significant growth and innovation in the Emergency Department targeting response to community care gaps and has helped to guide the ED team through the challenges of multiple critical periods. Under Dr. Vojdani’s leadership, the Emergency Department has introduced several provincial and national leading innovations and has seen improvement in several key quality, staff/physician engagement and performance metrics, moving the MGH Emergency department into the 5 top provincially in provincial performance metrics in 2023.
Dr. Vojdani has held multiple leadership roles both at MGH and in the private sector for over two decades. He has been the recipient of multiple teaching awards and most recently the Excellence in New Leadership award through DFCM at the University of Toronto in 2021. He is a proud board member with East-FPN, helping bring together the large and vibrant primary care network in East Toronto.

Dr. Jefferson Hayre has been a full-time emergency physician in the Stavro Emergency Department at Michael Garron Hospital since 2020. He completed medical school at Dalhousie University, and both his Family Medicine Residency and Emergency Medicine Fellowship at McGill University, where he was the chief resident of both programs.
His interests include operations in Emergency Medicine, he is the co-chair of the scheduling committee, and was lead of an innovative community based paediatric cough and cold clinic during a previous flu season. Currently, he is heavily involved in work to expand the ED. He also engages with the hospital foundation on a regular basis and is an engaging and a dynamic speaker, who strives to engage our community in the work of our hospital.
He is a lecturer at University of Toronto and teaches all levels of learners during regular shifts. He was awarded the MGH ED Emerging Teacher of the Year award, as determined by learner reviews in 2022.

Nadia Primiani works as a full-time Emergency Physician at Michael Garron Hospitals and Sinai Health. She completed her medical degree at McGill University in Montreal and her residency program at the University of British Columbia.
She is involved in medical education and is one of the outgoing Co-Leads for the CCFP(EM) Simulation Program. She is also the associate program director for the Mount Sinai Emergency Medicine Fellowship and past chair of the 2SLGBTQIA+ committee for CAEP (Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians). She is interested in learning through simulation and is working to develop complex simulation cases for the curriculum. She co-developed an in-situ simulation program at Sinai Health in which she worked with multidisciplinary teams running cases such as perimortem hysterotomies, code whites and massive upper GI bleeds. She is currently working on developing a similar program for the Stavro Emergency Department.
She has become an advocate for marginalized patients and has an interest in increasing awareness of their health needs, while promoting non-violent communication between physicians and patients. She has been an invited speaker nationally and internationally to advocate for trans and non-binary patients.

Originally from the east coast, Dr. Ruchi Mohindra completed medical training at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She completed residency and fellowship training in Emergency Medicine at Queens University. Currently, she is the Associate Chief Quality of the Emergency Department at Michael Garron Hospital.
Dr. Mohindra is the Physician Champion for Kids Health Alliance for MGH; a collaboration of community and academic institutions aimed at enhancing pediatric care. She played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Child and Youth Emergency Zone, a dedicated family friendly space that is designed to treat child and youth aged 17 and under who need urgent or acute medical care when their paediatrician or family doctor is not available.
Dr. Mohindra is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto (UofT), Department of Family and Community Medicine of Emergency Medicine (DFCM-EM) and recently completed her Master’s Degree in Medical Education at UofT. In addition to her clinical roles, she is the Associate Director for Faculty Development at MGH. She has been actively involved in education with peers, residents, medical student and currently co-leads the interdisciplinary in-situ simulation program for the ED at MGH. She has been the recipient of several awards including most recently the DFCM-EM Award for excellence in Quality Improvement as well as the Toronto Women in Emergency Medicine Award for Mentorship.

Dr. David Rosenstein has been a staff emergency physician for over 20 years at Michael Garron Hospital. A Department of Family Medicine lecturer, he also teaches first year medical students the core clinical skill course, as well as students on rotation in the emergency department (ED).
He also acted as the hospital’s Chief Medical Information Officer for 12 years during its digital transformation to computerized physician order entry (CPOE) and electronic documentation, and currently is the ED’s IT lead. He has helped spearhead several innovations including a comprehensive ED virtual care program during COVID-19 as well as an ED wait time clock initiative. He is now leading an implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) ambient scribe technology in the ED.
