On May 4, we put Toronto’s top business leaders and philanthropists in stitches. The good kind.
Our fourth instalment of the Michael Garron Hospital Gala: Laughter is the Best Medicine at the Beanfield Centre, was hosted by funnyman and Toronto native Will Arnett – who once again volunteered his time to give back to our East Toronto community.
We were pleased to welcome 124 MGH physicians and their guests, as well as a number of residents, thanks to a generous gift from Richard Hogarth, a longtime supporter of the hospital. In addition, 33 nursing and inter-professional practice staff were in attendance through our ‘fund a nurse’ initiative, with generous donors enabling their attendance through the purchase of tickets.
Part of the gala’s proceeds included three new incredible gifts towards Michael Garron Hospital’s Heart of the East Campaign. The gifts, announced at the event, include: a $1M commitment from the Amarshi family and the Victoria Village Group of Companies to establish the Zeena and Farid Amarshi Family Cardiac Centre in our new Ken & Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre; a $1M donation from the Moffat Family Foundation – Dr. Louisa Huband and Craig Moffat in support of our redevelopment; and a $700,000 donation from RBC Foundation to help fund MGH’s Youth and Young Adult Mental Health Navigator Service. With these gifts, our Heart of the East Campaign has now reached an incredible $87M toward our goal of $100M!
The Foundation is grateful to all of our attendees, sponsors and the close to 40 volunteers, mostly hospital staff. We couldn’t have done it without you!
