Making a plan to make a difference

“If there’s something you can do to help people after you’ve gone, that gives you a good feeling,” says Rosaline Cameron. With the gift to Michael Garron Hospital she has planned in her will, she’s helping our future patients.

Whenever Rosaline Cameron needed our hospital, for an urgent pacemaker insertion and ongoing high blood pressure treatment among other things, she felt comforted by the welcoming atmosphere and efficient care she received.

“When I tell people about Michael Garron Hospital, I tell them about the sense of community,” Rosaline says. “When you enter the doors, you feel calmer and you know you’re in a place where they’ll help you.”

Rosaline wants people to feel at home when they’re here. To help ensure this, she has made plans to leave a future gift to our hospital in her will.

A lawyer helped her write a will that reflects her values. As part of this, Rosaline decided to direct part of her estate to causes she supports, including our hospital.

When Rosaline told us about her bequest, we invited her to join our Joseph H. Harris Legacy Circle. Its members are committed to supporting our hospital through their wills and other planned gifts.

The Legacy Circle is our way of thanking people in advance for their future gifts. Members like Rosaline enjoy events such as annual luncheons. They are also acknowledged with a plaque located on the upper level of our hospital’s lobby.

“It feels good to be recognized,” says Rosaline. She says Legacy Circle events are interesting because they bring people together with a shared desire to do what they can to support their community.

A gift in your will is a practical way to support causes that are important to you beyond your lifetime. Here are examples of how to leave a planned gift to our hospital. It’s best to work with a lawyer who can provide expert advice on the options available to you.

“I tell all my friends to make their wills because it’s important to protect your loved ones’ interests and make it easier for the people who handle your estate,” says Rosaline, who appreciates the peace of mind her decision brought.

“None of us knows when we’re going to go,” says Rosaline. “If there’s something you can do to help people after you’ve gone, that gives you a good feeling.”
