The Vital Venture Fund has come to a close for 2026! More than 1,700 people watched student video productions on how urgently needed tools and technology save lives. And answered the call to vote.
Thanks to the Moez & Marissa Kassam Equity Fund and anonymous donors, the following urgently needed equipment is being funded for our community:
- Wireless fetal monitors, which report baby’s vital signs during birth. Featured in A safer start to life
- A gastroscope and a videoscope to diagnose young patients with conditions like celiac disease and inflammatory bowel disease. Subjects of Mission: Inner space
- Scanners to assess bladder function and avoid unnecessary catheterization. Portrayed in Safety starts with a scan
- Baby warmers and a video laryngoscope to support baby’s first breaths. Showcased in The 90 second difference
- An EMG Machine for diagnosis of nerve and muscle disorders. Plus, a NIM Monitor that assesses nerves during ear, nose and throat procedures. Covered in The difference a signal makes
- A major VATS Tray, which includes a full set of instruments to support life-saving thoracic procedures. As well as ERBE cautery equipment, tools used to reduce bleeding during surgery. Discussed in Surgical stars
Michael Garron Hospital continues to fundraise in support of the remaining equipment. If you’d like to help, please give what you can at mghf.ca/donate
We are grateful to the students at Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute who helped shine a light on our hospital’s vital equipment needs. And, of course, thanks to everyone who voted! You can still watch all the student-created videos below.
