Planning gifts to help our hospital

Local healthcare is important to Frank Tulipano and Joanne Neglia. They’ve planned gifts in their wills to support Michael Garron Hospital.

Choosing to support Michael Garron Hospital was easy for Frank Tulipano and Joanne Neglia. “East Toronto is our home, our community,” says Frank. “It’s logical to focus on our local hospital.”

In addition to donating regularly over the years, Frank and Joanne are making gifts to our hospital as bequests in their wills. Frank recently retired from a long career as a financial advisor, so it’s not surprising that they’ve planned their legacies carefully.

“We feel it’s important that much of our estate will go to charities and organizations that we connect with, like Michael Garron Hospital,” says Frank. “It feels right to donate our money to organizations that need it.”

Married for over 30 years, Frank and Joanne share a life filled with travel, sports and time spent with friends and family.

Community service is important to them. Joanne was president of her tennis club and volunteered at Variety Village. Frank was active in the East York Kiwanis Club for many years, including a stint as its president. He now volunteers on our foundation’s planned giving committee as well as at the hospital’s information desk.

Growing up in Riverdale, Joanne visited our hospital many times over the years. “I’ve always felt it’s a grade-A hospital,” she says. Her positive impression was confirmed when she had knee surgery here.

Support from the community makes high-quality hospital care possible, says Frank.

“Many people don’t realize that hospitals aren’t completely funded by the government. That’s why they need to rely on donations,” he says. When they told us about their bequests, we invited Frank and Joanne to join our Joseph H. Harris Legacy Circle. As a way of thanking people for their future gifts, Legacy Circle members enjoy exclusive events where they can learn what’s new at our hospital and socialize with other members. They are also acknowledged on two group plaques, one located on the hospital lobby’s upper level and the other in a garden on the Michael MacMillan & Cathy Spoel Terrace, which is open to the public on the hospital’s fourth floor.
