Marie Tulley

Planning a legacy to help make the world a better place

“The world can be overwhelming” says Marie Tulley. “So where do you start where you want to make change? In your own backyard.” Marie is helping to change the world by giving to Michael Garron Hospital now and through a future gift in her will.

Marie Tulley first donated to our hospital out of gratitude to the team who cared for her late husband, Basil “Buzz” Savage, when he was a patient here. The compassion they experienced made his final months easier.

Marie has also planned a gift to our hospital through a bequest in her will. She knows Buzz would have supported her choice to leave this legacy. Together for 42 years, they both valued kindness and generosity.

“Buzz and I always believed you should reach out and help wherever you can,” Marie says. “I asked myself, how can I leave something behind that makes the world a little better than we found it?”

Living near Thorncliffe Park at the time, Marie felt it made sense to give back to the hospital that served her community. “The world can be overwhelming,” she says. “So where do you start where you want to make change? In your own backyard.”

Planned gifts like Marie’s help ensure that Michael Garron Hospital can deliver the highest level of care to our community.

“Every day, I see how gifts that were set up years ago are making a difference to patients now by supporting equipment purchases, facility renovations and staff training programs,” says Yolanda Bronstein, Legacy Giving Manager at Michael Garron Hospital Foundation. “The gift you plan today will help our hospital meet the needs of the generations to come.”

When she told us of her plans to leave a gift to Michael Garron Hospital in her will, Marie was welcomed to our Joseph H. Harris Legacy Circle. Named for one of our hospital’s founders, this group shares a strong commitment to building a healthier community through their planned gifts supporting our hospital. Members can connect with each other at events while learning more about our hospital’s work.

“My bequest isn’t going to change the world, but it will support change,” says Marie. “Michael Garron Hospital is doing so much. This is a way we can give back so it can do even more.”
